Kreuzthal

Kreuzthal

Kreuzthal-Eisenbach lies in a part of the Allgäu (in the triangle Kempten-Isny-Leutkirch) where there are a lot of forests. The border between Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria divides the hills of the "Adelegg" along the valley of Eschach and even through it. (That's why it has a double name.)
The long forgotten region is also called the "dark heart of the Allgäu" and has an interesting history.

It's the ideal area for recovering, doing sports and spending freetime in summer as well as in winter.

Kreuzthal nearly has no mobile network!

"Adelegg" was settled late, until the 17th century only hunters and shepherds striped through the deep forests. Only then the lumberjacks and gaffers followed. They often cut the trees dramatically and settled on the hillside. Today Adelegg is an endangered landscape. There are no more farmers but more forests. Taking care of the landscape is not enough: on the marks left by the gaffers the unusual history can be experienced. From 1660-1898 13 glass huts were built and lost between Unterkürnach and Wengen. There is a new track connecting the old places of location of these huts, the disappeared villages of the "broken times" and finally ending in the new gaffer villages Schmidsfelden, Aschenfeld near Eisenbach or leading up to the "Alpe" Wenger Egg.
The so-called "gaffers track" has a distance of about 20km through the forests and over the hills and mountains of the Adelegg and for sure all senses are woken up by nature following this route. Opening your eyes you will experience a brand new world - the fascinating Adelegg where time sometimes stands still.

In the small shop opened in 2012 in the center of the village you can find everything you need: on Saturdays you can buy freshly made bread. There are also selfmade products like "Kreuzthaler Krämle" which is quite popular. From the holiday house it is just a 200m walk to the shop.
